DC/26/145093 - Trees in Conservation Areas Approved

Proposal

T1 - Poplar - crown reduce 14m in height. Reduce height by 3m from 14m to 11m. Reduce laterals by 2m from 8m to 6m on all compass points. The taller of two poplars standing close together on the rear boundary of the garden. The garden is bounded on all sides by dwellings, outbuildings and neighbouring gardens, so failure of the upper stem or a major limb would have a target beneath it in most directions. The proposed reduction lowers the height and takes in the lateral spread, reducing the sail area and the leverage on the stem while keeping the tree in proportion to a garden of this size. T2 - Poplar - crown reduce 12m in height. Reduce height by 3m from 12m to 9m. Reduce laterals by 1m from 6m to 5m on all compass points. The second of the two poplars, standing immediately alongside T1 on the rear boundary. The two trees have grown up together and their crowns are in contact, so both are proposed for reduction in the same operation to keep the pair balanced and to avoid leaving one exposed to wind loading it has not previously carried. T3 - Acacia - crown reduce 14m in height. No reduction to height. Reduce laterals by 3m from 8m to 5m on all compass points. A mature Acacia standing between the poplars and the house. The tree has previously been pruned and has responded with long, heavily contorted lateral limbs that now extend well out over the garden and towards the boundary. The works are therefore confined to the laterals, bringing the spread in by 3m to reduce end-weight and leverage on the weaker unions. T4 - Plum - crown reduce and crown lift 6m in height. Reduce height by 1m from 6m to 5m. Reduce laterals by 1m from 5m to 4m on all compass points. Lift the crown to give 3m of clearance over ground level. he works are deliberately light: the tree is retained rather than removed. Data via plota.co.uk

Site constraints 6

Forest Hill conservation area
Demolition needs planning permission and permitted development is restricted.
The council must give weight to preserving or enhancing the area's character and appearance. Not every council has published its boundaries as open data.

2 Article 4 directions
Small HMO Northern Extension · Forest Hill Article 4(3) Direction. Named permitted development rights are withdrawn here.
An Article 4 direction withdraws particular permitted development rights, so work that would normally need no application needs one here. Not every council has published its directions.
Air quality management area: Crofton Park and Honor Oak Park Air Quality Management Area
The council has declared the area as failing an air quality objective.
Schemes that add traffic, parking or combustion plant are assessed against the area's action plan and may need an air quality assessment.

Checked on 24 September 2026. The pin for this application is the centre of its postcode rather than the building, so distances to nearby designations are measured from the postcode and can be out by the width of the postcode area. A boundary can run through a site and the council holds the definitive record: confirm with the council before relying on this.
