26/01554/TPO - Tree Preservation Order Current

Proposal

T1 Mature Beech (Protected by Tree Preservation Order) Proposed Works: Reduce the third western lateral limb by approximately 3m (from 8m to 5m) to reduce end-weight and leverage. Reduce the first eastern lateral limb, which originates immediately above a historic occluded pruning wound, by approximately 3m (from 10m to 7m), using pruning cuts not exceeding 75mm diameter. Reduce the southern canopy overhanging the public highway by approximately 2.5m (from 10m to 7.5m). Reduce the south-western upper lateral canopy by approximately 2m to shorten the overextended branch. Lightly reshape and blend the remaining extremities of the crown where necessary to create a balanced canopy profile in accordance with the above reductions. Crown lift tertiary growth foliage in line with the crown fork, this to allow light down into the understory Arboricultural Justification: The Beech occupies a prominent position immediately adjacent to the public highway and has recently experienced branch failures, indicating an increased likelihood of further limb failure associated with extended lateral growth and elevated end-weight. The proposed pruning seeks to reduce mechanical loading on the principal scaffold limbs, particularly those exhibiting excessive extension and historic pruning defects, thereby lowering the risk of future branch failure over the highway. The works are limited in extent, will retain the tree's natural form and amenity value, and represent appropriate cyclical management in accordance with the recommendations of BS3998:2010 Tree Work Recommendations.
