26/02026/TPO - Tree Preservation Order Current

Proposal

We would like to apply to have the crown lifted on a Yew tree, (number 194421 on the plan), that overhangs the school's boundary from the grounds neighboring Hinton House due to health and safety concerns and recent incidents involving primary school aged children scratching their heads and faces on the low hanging branches that encroach into the children's play area. We would like to apply to have the crown of the tree lifted to a height of 3 meters from ground level on the school's side of the boundary in order to create a safer head height beneath it that will help to prevent any further similar incidents from occurring in the future. If approval is granted, any proposed works will be carried out by approved contractors under the instruction of Hampshire County Council's Arboriculture team. Data via plota.co.uk

Site constraints 6

Nutrient neutrality catchment: Solent: Includes Chichester and Langstone Harbours SPA/Ramsar, Solent and Southampton Water SPA/Ramsar, Solent Maritime SAC, Portsmouth Harbour SPA/Ramsar
New homes and overnight accommodation must show nutrient neutrality before approval.
Natural England advice: extra wastewater in these catchments harms protected habitats, so schemes must offset their nutrient load, usually through credits.
National infrastructure project 457 m away: M3 Junction 9 Improvement
The site is 457 m from the project boundary. Highway, decided. The project page says whether consent was granted.
Nationally significant infrastructure projects (power stations, electricity lines, pipelines, major roads and railways, harbours, airports and reservoirs) are consented by a Secretary of State under the Planning Act 2008, after an examination by the Planning Inspectorate, rather than by the council. The boundary is the one the Inspectorate consults on and can change as the scheme does. Projects are shown within 2 km of the site.

Checked on 6 October 2026. Historic England, the Environment Agency, Natural England, the Planning Inspectorate, the British Geological Survey and UK Health Security Agency (radon, contains BGS materials © UKRI) and council datasets, Open Government Licence. A boundary can run through a site and the council holds the definitive record: confirm with the council before relying on this.
