NP/TCA/0726/0698 - Conservation Area Tree Work Decided

Proposal

T1: Ring barked sycamore in Millennium Gardens. Fell the tree to ground level. Although the growth from below the ring barking has good vitality, the majority of the tree appears to be dead. Decayed wood supporting majority of the stem. Our Senior Consultant has assessed this tree against the VALID risk matrix and the outcome is a Not Tolerable risk of failure, due to the targets below and potential harm it could cause. Site constraints 4

Peak District National Park
The park authority decides applications here. Great weight to conserving the landscape; major development restricted.
Landscape, scenic beauty and wildlife carry great weight, and major development is only allowed in exceptional circumstances.
Habitat network: Network Enhancement Zone 2
Where habitat is joined up enough to work as a network. Context, not a constraint on its own.
Also on the record
Inside the Hathersage built-up area; the 1970s provisional farmland map had this area as grade 4, but it predates the buildings here and the current map does not class it as farmland.
Not affected
Outside flood zones 2 and 3 · Not green belt · No scheduled monument at the site

Checked on 11 September 2026. Historic England, the Environment Agency, Natural England and council datasets, Open Government Licence. A boundary can run through a site and the council holds the definitive record: confirm with the council before relying on this.
