Site constraints 8

Scheduled monument: Enclosure castle at Castle Donington
Scheduled monument consent is needed for any work to it, separate from planning permission.
Nationally important archaeology protected by the Secretary of State. Work that affects the monument or its setting is rarely permitted.
Historic England ↗
Castle Donington conservation area
Demolition needs planning permission and permitted development is restricted.
The council must give weight to preserving or enhancing the area's character and appearance. Not every council has published its boundaries as open data.
Council document ↗
National infrastructure project about 428 m away: East Midlands Gateway Phase 2
The site is about 428 m from the project boundary. Storage and distribution, examination closed, recommendation due. Also within 2 km: East Midlands Gateway Rail Freight Interchange (decided, about 433 m); East Midlands Gateway Rail Freight Interchange Material Change (examination closed, recommendation due, about 1793 m).
Nationally significant infrastructure projects (power stations, electricity lines, pipelines, major roads and railways, harbours, airports and reservoirs) are consented by a Secretary of State under the Planning Act 2008, after an examination by the Planning Inspectorate, rather than by the council. The boundary is the one the Inspectorate consults on and can change as the scheme does. Projects are shown within 2 km of the site.

Also on the record
Radon affected area, class 2; 2 listed buildings within 150 m of the postcode pin; Inside the Castle Donington built-up area; Priority habitat about 29 m away: Deciduous woodland; Natural England's Provisional ALC map (1:250,000, 1970s) had this area as grade 3, but it predates the buildings here and the current map does not class it as farmland.
Not affected
Outside flood zones 2 and 3 · Not green belt

Checked on 6 October 2026. The pin for this application is the centre of its postcode rather than the building, so distances to nearby designations are measured from the postcode and can be out by the width of the postcode area. Historic England, the Environment Agency, Natural England, the Planning Inspectorate, the British Geological Survey and UK Health Security Agency (radon, contains BGS materials © UKRI) and council datasets, Open Government Licence. A boundary can run through a site and the council holds the definitive record: confirm with the council before relying on this.
