26/01797/TPO - Tree Preservation Order Current

Proposal

Our house is in a TPO polygon. There are two small trees in our garden to the left and right of our garden. The tree on the right side has grown and damaged/ crushed the fence. The trees themselves are not individually TPO protected trees but within this polygon that covers the majority (not all) of the house and gardens and they are small. We would like to remove them. We would also like to please cut/ trim the neighbouring trees at 10 and 12 Austen Close to the boundary line as they're overgrown and coming into our garden, through the fences and threaten further damage. I understand if they were not in a TPO polygon this would be allowed without permission? We would like to remove the two small trees (labelled L for left and R for right) on the sketch within our garden please. I do not know the type of trees they are, I believe the TPO was issued in 1947. We would like to just do basic maintenance and remove the two small trees in our garden. Data via plota.co.uk

Site constraints 7

Nutrient neutrality catchment: Solent: Includes Chichester and Langstone Harbours SPA/Ramsar, Solent and Southampton Water SPA/Ramsar, Solent Maritime SAC, Portsmouth Harbour SPA/Ramsar
New homes and overnight accommodation must show nutrient neutrality before approval.
Natural England advice: extra wastewater in these catchments harms protected habitats, so schemes must offset their nutrient load, usually through credits.
Habitat network: Network Enhancement Zone 2
Where habitat is joined up enough to work as a network. Context, not a constraint on its own.
SSSI 193 m away: Alresford Pond SSSI
Natural England may need consulting, depending on what is proposed.
Sites of special scientific interest are the best wildlife and geological sites in the country. Development likely to harm one is rarely permitted.
National infrastructure project 1060 m away: M3 Junction 9 Improvement
The site is 1060 m from the project boundary. Highway, decided. The project page says whether consent was granted.
Nationally significant infrastructure projects (power stations, electricity lines, pipelines, major roads and railways, harbours, airports and reservoirs) are consented by a Secretary of State under the Planning Act 2008, after an examination by the Planning Inspectorate, rather than by the council. The boundary is the one the Inspectorate consults on and can change as the scheme does. Projects are shown within 2 km of the site.

Also on the record
National park 200 m away: South Downs; 4 listed buildings within 150 m; Inside the Winchester built-up area.
Not affected
Outside flood zones 2 and 3 · Not green belt · No scheduled monument at the site

Checked on 6 October 2026. Historic England, the Environment Agency, Natural England, the Planning Inspectorate and council datasets, Open Government Licence. A boundary can run through a site and the council holds the definitive record: confirm with the council before relying on this.
