26/00800/TCA - Tree in Conservation Area Withdrawn

Proposal

T4 (as shown on tree survey plan) Lawson cypress. Remove tree. Reason Foundations for the approved boiler house will result in substantial root damage. Any alternative foundation design cannot be achieved. As compensation five oak trees (suitably protected from deer etc) will be planted in the field to the rear of Stanton Court. Although the tree is visible from the public road it is considered that it does not make a substantial contribution to public visual amenity or the character of the conservation area. Historic England ↗
Cotswolds National Landscape
Great weight to conserving the landscape; major development restricted.
Previously an area of outstanding natural beauty, which is still the designation in law. Since 2023 authorities must seek to further its purpose, not merely have regard to it.
Stanton Conservation Area conservation area
Demolition needs planning permission and permitted development is restricted.
The council must give weight to preserving or enhancing the area's character and appearance. Not every council has published its boundaries as open data.
Article 4 direction
Stanton Article 4 Direction. Named permitted development rights are withdrawn here.
An Article 4 direction withdraws particular permitted development rights, so work that would normally need no application needs one here. Not every council has published its directions.
Scheduled monument 82 m away: Village cross at Stanton
Its setting is a consideration for work nearby.
Nationally important archaeology protected by the Secretary of State. Work that affects the monument or its setting is rarely permitted.
Historic England ↗
Habitat network: Network Enhancement Zone 1
Where habitat is joined up enough to work as a network. Context, not a constraint on its own.
Also on the record
Inside the Stanton (Tewkesbury) built-up area; Natural England's Provisional ALC map (1:250,000, 1970s) had this area as grade 3, but it predates the buildings here and the current map does not class it as farmland.
Not affected
Outside flood zones 2 and 3 · Not green belt

Checked on 6 October 2026. Historic England, the Environment Agency, Natural England and council datasets, Open Government Licence. A boundary can run through a site and the council holds the definitive record: confirm with the council before relying on this.
