G1 Hawthorn and Elder Group TPO Works Justification The group comprises predominantly Hawthorn and Elder and is heavily overgrown and extensively dominated by Ivy. The vegetation appears to have historically functioned more as a managed hedgerow or screening feature rather than a formal line of individual trees and has subsequently been allowed to become unmanaged. The group is now so heavily encumbered by Ivy that it is not reasonably practicable to remove or cut out the Ivy whilst retaining the existing branch structure. The Ivy dominates and obscures the underlying branch framework and, as a result, it was difficult to accurately identify the individual tree species and assess the original structure of the group. The proposed works are therefore to reduce and face back the overhanging growth over the garden boundary, removing the excessive Ivy-laden growth and encroachment into the garden whilst retaining sufficient live growth to maintain the established screening function. The intention is not to remove the group, but to undertake proportionate management to bring the vegetation back into a manageable condition, whilst retaining its existing contribution to visual amenity, screening and privacy. The works will also help prevent further encroachment and allow the group to be more appropriately managed in the future. All works will be undertaken in accordance with BS3998:2010 ? Tree Work Recommendations, with cuts made to suitable growth points wherever practicable and with care taken to retain the principal stems and viable live growth. Data via plota.co.uk
