Proposal
1no. Group of Unspecified Species (G1) - Existing overhang is relatively minor, extending approx. 2–3m over the adjoining gardens at its greatest extent. The proposed works would be limited to growth extending beyond the respective property boundaries and would not involve unnecessary removal of branches or any significant reduction in the overall tree canopy. Permission is requested to allow residents to maintain the existing overhang from the trees at Hogsty Corner back to their respective property boundary fences. Consent is requested for a period of 7 years to allow this work to be carried out as part of routine maintenance when required, without the need for a new application each time. Pruning Specification * Pruning will be limited to branches and growth extending beyond the respective property boundary. * The pruning line will generally follow the existing boundary fence. * Branches will be pruned back to suitable growth points or branch unions, rather than simply cut back to the boundary. * No topping, pollarding or general crown reduction will be undertaken. * The overall form, health and structural integrity of the trees will be retained. * Where practical, works will be carried out in accordance with good arboricultural practice and with regard to the condition and growth characteristics of the individual trees. The proposed approach would: * Reduce the risk of branch failure over the gardens. *Allow the trees to be managed regularly and proactively, rather than allowing the overhang to become more extensive before work is undertaken. * Reduce the likelihood of more significant pruning being required in the future. * Keep growth from encroaching further over gardens while retaining the trees and their amenity and biodiversity value. * Give residents a clear and consistent approach to managing the overhang. * Avoid the need for repeated applications for what would otherwise be routine and proportionate maintenance. * Maintain a consistent pruning line and help avoid excessive pruning. A seven-year period is considered appropriate as the trees and their relationship with the adjoining boundaries are unlikely to change significantly over this period. It should provide a consistent approach to managing the overhang while still allowing the trees and the effectiveness of the pruning regime to be reviewed before any further long-term consent is considered.
