26/01036/TRE - Work to tree within Conservation area Pending Consideration

Proposal

T1 Apple (Malus domestica). The only tree in the rear courtyard garden of 5 Bernard Street, located in the raised bed along the left-hand boundary, immediately beside the outbuilding (see Photo 01). Works: Fell to ground level and grind out stump. Reasons: The tree has outgrown a small enclosed courtyard, heavily shading the garden; the crown overhangs the neighbouring garden and the outbuilding roof, depositing leaves and fruit on the roof and in gutters; the trunk is close to the outbuilding wall; and heavy fruit drop creates a slip hazard on the paving. The tree is not visible from Bernard Street and makes minimal contribution to the public realm (see Photo 02). Replacement: We intend to plant one smaller, more appropriately scaled tree in the garden, such as a Japanese maple (Acer palmatum) or a compact ornamental cherry. Data via plota.co.uk
