Description
T1 - Sweet Chestnut - Reduce the east (E) primary branch of the sweet chestnut that has sustained damage from the failed branch back to a suitable pruning point / point of origin in accordance with current arboricultural best practice. Remove damaged, torn, or fractured wood as necessary to leave a sound finished pruning wound. All material will be left on site. The FSC have also been made aware of these works. The proposed reduction of the damaged east primary branch is intended to lessen end-weight and reduce mechanical loading on the compromised structure, thereby mitigating the likelihood of further branch failure while retaining the branch for the long term where reasonably practicable. The extent of reduction has been specified to maintain sufficient live crown and preserve the existing branch framework and natural crown form in accordance with good arboricultural practice. Retention of the branch also allows the longitudinal split and associated wound features to develop as valuable habitat components, contributing to the tree?s ecological value and potential for habitat development over time. The works therefore seek to achieve an appropriate balance between risk management, tree retention, structural stability, and habitat conservation.
