Description

Please note that the tree is on the land adjacent to 14 Cromer Villas Rd, London SW18 1PN. We are unable to select this location from the drop down list for this postcode. T1 - Veteran Horse Chestnut - Fell the tree on safety grounds is considered justified and appropriate in order to mitigate the risk to persons and property, leaving a stump of 1 metre. As an Arboricultural Approved contractor (#AC2626), all works will be undertaken in accordance with BS39982010 - Tree Work - Recommendations. Reasons for works: Arboriculturalist, Nick Hayden of Hayden???s Arboricultural Consultants www.treesurveys.co.uk, noted that the pronounced lean now evident in the standing horse chestnut was not recorded during the previous inspection undertaken in 2025. It is therefore reasonable to conclude that the recent failure of the adjacent companion tree may have contributed to a change in loading conditions, resulting in movement of the subject tree. In addition, the standing tree exhibits an unbalanced crown structure which, when considered alongside its increased exposure following the loss of the neighbouring tree, is likely to result in elevated wind loading. During inspection of the fallen tree, it was also observed that sections of the stem exhibited significant internal decay, with the pith and surrounding hardwood able to be manually separated. This indicates advanced structural degradation from within. It is therefore highly probable that the failed companion tree was subject to a similar level of internal decay. Furthermore, the standing tree has previously been noted to contain sizeable cavities within the main crown structure, further compounding concerns regarding its integrity. Taken together, the observed lean, altered loading conditions, increased wind exposure, internal decay and pre-existing crown cavities materially compromise the structural stability of the tree and significantly increase the likelihood of failure. On the basis of these combined factors, the recommendation to fell the tree on safety grounds is considered justified and appropriate in order to mitigate the risk to persons and property.
