Sale prices and freehold boundaries on planning applications

FeatureDataAPI
Sale prices and boundaries in the API

Planning applications can now be searched by what the property last sold for. Narrow this year's applications in Mayfair to properties that last sold for £1 million or more and 161 come back, each with its full sales history on the application page.

On paid plans, the Pro filters tab has a Property price section. Choose £250k+, £500k+, £1m+ or £2m+, or set your own price range, and the results narrow to applications on properties whose last sale falls in it. It combines with every other filter.

Architects and builders can use it to find high-end extension work. For valuers and agents it shows which homes on their patch are being enlarged, and what each last sold for.

The sales history on each application

Application pages in England and Wales now carry a Sales history card listing each sale HM Land Registry has recorded for the property since 1995, with the price, the date and whether it was a new build. About 218,000 pages have one, including four in five householder applications this year.

4 June 2009 £925,000

Using a boundary instead of a pin

Where we can identify the property's freehold with confidence, the application page now draws its boundary instead of a pin. The boundaries come from HM Land Registry. They are approximate, and the precise legal line can differ.

In the API

On Pro and above, API records carry last_sale and the full sales list, and min_price and max_price filter on the last sale. The boundary comes as GeoJSON in outline on every paid plan. Field definitions are in the developer docs.

Application pages in England and Wales now carry a Building card beneath the sales history, from the property's latest energy performance certificate: its floor area, its energy rating and the rating it could reach, its type and rooms, when it was built, its heating and its walls, with a link to the certificate itself. About 260,000 applications have one, homes and commercial buildings alike.
