Three storage units at Yard Newark Street, Port Glasgow

Summary of planning committee decision

Decided by Inverclyde Planning Board on 7 Jan 2026.

25/0101/ICApproved

What was proposed

The application sought two buildings containing three Class 6 storage units, with hardstanding, vehicle access, parking and cycle spaces.

“Planning permission is sought for the erection of two buildings containing three storage units within the site. The buildings are to comprise a larger building containing a single storage unit covering a footprint of 283sqm and a smaller building containing two storage units covering a footprint of 106sqm.”

“To the north and west of the buildings, the site is to be finished with hardstanding to form an external yard with parking areas. The area between the smaller building and the south-west boundary with 1-3 Kilmory Terrace is to remain undeveloped. Three parking spaces and three bicycle hoops are to be formed along the west site boundary, and a disabled parking space is proposed along the west side of the smaller building.”

The site contains a mixture of immature and semi-mature trees located around the outer edges of the site. The centre of the site contains a mixture of hardstanding, rubble and cleared trees. An area of standing water is located towards the south and east of the site.”

“The site adjoins a three-storey building to the west containing a pet grooming business at ground floor level and residential flats above. A four-storey building containing residential flats adjoins the south-west boundary, the ground floor of which is raised above the site by around 8m. To the north-west there is a car park, with a Lidl supermarket beyond.”
