Summary of planning committee decision

Decided by Burnley Development Control Committee on 23 Apr 2026.

PA/2026/0045Approved

What was proposed

The application proposed demolishing the existing depot and constructing a non-hazardous waste transfer station with associated infrastructure.

“Proposal 2.1.1. The application seeks permission to create a non-hazardous waste transfer station with capacity for up to 35,000 tonnes per annum. Currently the Councils Waste Collection vehicles are having to drive to Leyland, South Ribble to deposit waste. This transfer station would allow waste to be bulked up for transport reducing the number of trips, improving the efficiency of the service and reducing costs.”

“The waste transfer station would include a residual and food waste transfer hall, recycling and green waste transfer hall, office cabin, water tank, weigh bridge, storage bays and space for skips. The residual and food waste transfer hall would be 29.5m by 20.4m with a mono pitched roof with a maximum height of 8m. The building would include 3no. roller shutter doors to the front elevation and to 2no. access doors one in either side elevation.”
