Minutes

Questions on skylights

A member raised concerns about skylights facing upwards into the sky; officers said the site was built-up with other properties having skylights and street lighting already.

“A Member raised concerns regarding the skylights situated on the ground floor as light would be facing upwards into the sky. The Officer confirmed that the development is in a built-up area and that there were many properties with skylights in the area. The Development Manager added that it was unlikely that an excessive amount of light would be created that would cause concern.”

Questions on loft use

Members questioned the planned use of loft rooms as a games room and plant room, and were told that exceeding the approved height could be considered for enforcement, depending on the degree of harm.

“Members questioned the room in the loft area and its planned usage. The Development Manager explained that the houses would still be considered two-storey but with three floors. The space in the loft area was planned as a games room and a plant room, but the future use could change. Future occupants could convert the space to a bedroom to suits their needs, but this was not a consideration of the application that was before the Committee.”

Minutes

Members in favour

Other members supported the application, saying two dwellings replacing one was a good use of an underutilised plot.

“Other Members were in favour of the application, noting that two dwellings replacing one was a good use of the land and better use should be made of underutilised plots such as this. The Chairman proposed a motion to approve the application as per the officer’s recommendation in the officer’s report. (NB. Counted vote on the decision of the Committee – 8 in favour, 0 against, 3 abstentions) RESOLVED: That permission be GRANTED in respect of application no.”
