“The signage design and size follow the advice given as part of the Council's pre-application advice.”

Officer report

The site and surroundings

The site was a small development enclave close to dwellings, the church and village hall, with the sign on a grass bank beside the road.

“RR/2025/998/A small enclave of development in close proximity to dwellings, the church and the village hall.”

“The sign will be displayed on a grass bank set back from the road adjacent the fencing and would be relatively simple with no proposed distracting flashing or illumination to the signage. The sign does not block the adjacent access into the Mountfield Winery or visibility at that access. As such, it is considered that the sign would not impact the public highway safety and there is no objection from the local Highway Authority.”

Officer report

Main effects considered

Officers considered highway safety, ecology and historical impacts, finding the sign unlikely to cause harm because of its small scale and position.

“The signage is proposed to be displayed within an Archaeological Notification Area and there are numerous heritage listings in the area, however the de minimis scale of the signage together with the non-intrusive position on the grass bank is unlikely to have any historical impacts.”

Officer report

The officer recommendation

Officers found the signage acceptable in location, scale and design and recommended advertisement consent.

“This proposed signage is acceptable in terms of location, scale and design, it would not have a harmful impact on the character and appearance of the area or upon the safety of the public highway and as such it is recommended for approval.”

“RECOMMENDATION: GRANT (ADVERTISEMENT CONSENT)”
