Proposal

An amendment to the existing outer castle wall (also the boundary wall) is proposed to accommodate a second exit from the grounds of Abergavenny Castle. Amendments are to include a new gap in the wall, new gates in filling the gap, small areas of flagstone surfacing to accommodate foot traffic, a raised level paved area outside the wall leading to 4 steps in one direction and a ramp in the other direction, to transition between existing level-differences inside to outside the castle grounds. No works are proposed above the height of the existing wall. Data via plota.co.uk

Grade II listed: Abergavenny Museum
List entry 86811 · 2 m away · 25 more listed buildings within 150 m (1 Grade I, 3 Grade II*, 21 Grade II)

Historic England ↗
Nutrient neutrality catchment: River Usk
New homes and overnight accommodation must show nutrient neutrality before approval.
Natural England advice: extra wastewater in these catchments harms protected habitats, so schemes must offset their nutrient load, usually through credits.
Registered park or garden: Abergavenny Castle
Nationally designated heritage. Its significance and setting carry great weight.
Registered parks and gardens, battlefields, world heritage sites and protected wrecks are designated heritage assets: harm needs clear and convincing justification.
Abergavenny conservation area
Demolition needs planning permission and permitted development is restricted.
The council must give weight to preserving or enhancing the area's character and appearance. Not every council has published its boundaries as open data.
Scheduled monument 32 m away: Abergavenny Castle
Its setting is a consideration for work nearby.
Nationally important archaeology protected by the Secretary of State. Work that affects the monument or its setting is rarely permitted.
Special area of conservation 240 m away: River Usk / Afon Wysg
Work nearby can need a habitats assessment.
Harm to a protected site is only accepted where there is no alternative and an overriding public interest.
Also on the record
SSSI 240 m away: River Usk (Lower Usk) / Afon Wysg (Wysg Isaf).
Not affected
