07/26/0704/TW - Works to Trees Decided

Proposal

T1 Weeping silver birch in the front garden -The trunk is approximately 2.5 metres from the front of the house and 2.5 metres from the front boundary. Proposed works: Selectively shorten branches on the house-facing side of the crown by up to 1 metre, pruning back to suitable lateral growth points, to increase clearance from the dwelling. Selectively shorten upper shoots growing towards the overhead telephone wires by up to 1 metre. No general crown-height reduction is proposed beyond this selective pruning. Lightly thin the remaining crown by up to 10%, concentrating on small, congested secondary branches and selectively removing crossing or rubbing branches. Retain an even distribution of foliage and the tree characteristic rounded, weeping form. Remove dead and damaged branches where present. No topping, pollarding or removal of major structural limbs is proposed. All pruning to follow BS 3998:2010 recommendations. Reasons: To reduce encroachment towards the house and overhead telephone wires, relieve crown congestion and reduce rubbing between branches, while retaining the tree natural shape and visual contribution to the street.
