Proposal

Notification of works to trees in a Conservation Area - Multistem Willow to be repollarded to a height of roughly 60ft to avoid wind throw, and ease of maintenance going forward. There is decay visible on one stem closest to the fence due to a previous limb fail. Tear marks are visible. I propose that stem be brought down to a lower level of 30ft to avoid possible failure. Site constraints 7

Grade II listed: Bildeston Hall
List entry 1193280 · 3 m away · 19 more listed buildings within 150 m (3 Grade II*, 16 Grade II)
Listed building consent is needed for work that affects the special interest of a listed building, inside or out, on top of planning permission. Setting can be a consideration for buildings nearby; there is no fixed radius.

Historic England ↗
Public footpath 8 m away
Matters where it crosses or adjoins the site: obstructing a path without a diversion order is an offence, and work cannot start until the order is confirmed.
Compiled from highway authority data, not the legal definitive map. A few authorities have not published, so no path shown is not proof there is none.
Bildeston conservation area
Demolition needs planning permission and permitted development is restricted.
The council must give weight to preserving or enhancing the area's character and appearance. Not every council has published its boundaries as open data.

Also on the record
Flood defence 15 m away (natural high ground, designed for a 1 in 2 year flood); Inside the Bildeston built-up area; Open access land 5 m away: Access Land - Combined Open Country, Registered Common Land and Section 16 Dedicated Land; Natural England's Provisional ALC map (1:250,000, 1970s) had this area as grade 3, but it predates the buildings here and the current map does not class it as farmland.
Not affected
Outside flood zones 2 and 3 · Not green belt · No scheduled monument at the site

Checked on 2 November 2026. Historic England, the Environment Agency, Natural England and council datasets, Open Government Licence. A boundary can run through a site and the council holds the definitive record: confirm with the council before relying on this.
