Proposal
The proposed works comprise the removal of a redundant concrete sill, selective embankment lowering, installation of large woody material, and the excavation of shallow floodplain scrapes to reconnect the River Shalbourne with its historic floodplain. Minor works within an existing drainage ditch, including bank lowering, a shallow conveyance scrape and a gravel plug, will help restore natural flow pathways and improve floodplain function. All works are earthwork-based, with no buildings or permanent structures proposed, and surplus excavated material will be spread on adjacent land outside the functional floodplain. Wiltshire is slower than most councils at deciding householder applications, ranking #225 out of 296. The council extends the time limit on 55% of applications - one of the highest rates in England. Expect your application to take longer than the standard deadline. Householder applications are slightly more likely to be approved here (96%) than the national average (90%).
