Send UK planning applications to Salesforce
Create Salesforce records from new planning matches in your saved areas.
Plota brings UK planning applications from 389 council planning portals into one classified, source-linked feed. Connect it to Salesforce and every new planning application that matches your saved area and categories arrives in Salesforce automatically - so your team can act on local planning activity the day it is published, without checking council portals by hand.
Before you start
- Get an API key (a free demo key works for testing).
- Create a saved alert in Plota for the area and categories you want, and note its alert id.
How to connect Plota to Salesforce
Bridge through Zapier or Make
Set up the Plota webhook exactly as in the Zapier guide, so Salesforce receives a mapped payload rather than raw JSON. The event type is application.match.created and the record itself sits at data.application.
Add a Salesforce action
Choose Salesforce → Create Record. For anything beyond a trial, create a custom Planning Application object rather than overloading Lead or Opportunity: a planning application is not a sales stage, and keeping them apart stops planning volume distorting pipeline reporting.
Map the fields
reference → Name, address → a text field, category.label → a picklist (map category.slug if you need stable logic - labels are written for people), stage → a normalised status picklist, the received and decision dates → date fields.
Leave the council URL optional
links.plota is always present. links.council is null where the authority publishes no per-application URL, so mark that Salesforce field optional - a required URL field will fail record creation on exactly the councils you most want flagged.
Or load in bulk instead
If you would rather batch than stream, Data Loader can import a bulk export. This is the export endpoint, not a search page, so it returns the whole set in one file - up to 5,000 rows a call on Starter, 25,000 on Pro, 100,000 on Business, drawn from your monthly records allowance:
curl -X POST "https://api.plota.co.uk/v1/exports" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer plota_live_your_key" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"council":"wandsworth","date_from":"2026-01-01","format":"csv","limit":5000}' \
-o planning.csvVerify deliveries
Each webhook is signed - verify the Plota-Signature header (HMAC-SHA256 over timestamp.body). Full details in the API docs.
Salesforce integration FAQ
Can I send UK planning applications to Salesforce?
Yes. When a new application matches a saved Plota alert, Plota fires a signed webhook that reaches Salesforce through Zapier or Make. Each record includes the planning reference, authority, address, description, classified category, dates, and links to the official council source and the Plota page.
Do I need to write code to connect Plota to Salesforce?
No. You wire Plota's webhook into Salesforce through Zapier or Make, then map the planning application fields - no code required.
What planning data comes through to Salesforce?
Every event carries the application reference, authority, address, postcode, description, Plota's classified category, status, received / validated / decision dates, coordinates, the Plota page URL and the official council source URL.
How current is the planning data?
Plota checks UK council planning portals daily and classifies new applications, so matches reach Salesforce as they are processed - not on a manual schedule.
Is the Salesforce integration free?
You can test the API with a free demo key. Live webhook delivery into Salesforce is available on the Starter plan and above; Plota's public planning search and email alerts stay free.
