Who spoke
The agent spoke in support and a resident spoke as an objector.
Members’ concerns
Members raised concerns about highway safety, congestion, retail impacts, hotel access, residential amenity, landscaping and disabled parking.
“Members debated the matter fully, with the following comments being raised: • Councillor Gibson as a ward member for this item raised concerns about the entrance and exit from the site onto the A151. This road was a particularly busy area of Spalding and while it had recently been improved at the roundabout, the proposed development could exacerbate these traffic problems again.”
“It was felt that the retail impact assessment undertaken did not establish a need for this type of development and did not detail the impact on other neighbouring retail areas such as Holbeach. • It was inappropriate that the HGVs would be using the same road where disabled parking was in place. • In the case of a refusal, it would be extremely difficult to evidence the traffic congestion and highway safety concerns where the Highways authority had submitted no objection.”
Minutes
The committee’s agreement
The committee agreed to defer the application, following a motion proposed by Councillor Avery and seconded by Councillor Bingham.
“(Moved by Councillor Avery, Seconded by Councillor Bingham)”
