TM/2026/0172/TCA - Trees in Conservation Area Allocated to Officer

Proposal

The tree location of the tree is identified on the attached plan and is approximately 20 west of the church. The tree is a cypress conifer approximately 6m tall x 3m wide. It is adjacent to a large lime tree and a yew and is out of keeping with all the indigenous trees in the churchyard. It also occupies valuable space in our churchyard which is very nearly full and so we wish to be able to use this space for burials for parish residents rather than face imminent closure of the churchyard. Site constraints 7

Grade I listed: The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul
List entry 1028097 · 2 m from the pin · 18 more listed buildings within 150 m (1 Grade II*, 17 Grade II)
Listed building consent is needed for work that affects the special interest of a listed building, inside or out, on top of planning permission. Setting can be a consideration for buildings nearby; there is no fixed radius.

Historic England ↗
High Weald National Landscape
Great weight to conserving the landscape; major development restricted.
Previously an area of outstanding natural beauty, which is still the designation in law. Since 2023 authorities must seek to further its purpose, not merely have regard to it.
Wadhurst Conservation Area conservation area
Demolition needs planning permission and permitted development is restricted.
The council must give weight to preserving or enhancing the area's character and appearance. Not every council has published its boundaries as open data.

Public footpath 21 m away
Matters where it crosses or adjoins the site: obstructing a path without a diversion order is an offence, and work cannot start until the order is confirmed.
Compiled from highway authority data, not the legal definitive map. A few authorities have not published, so no path shown is not proof there is none.
Habitat network: Network Enhancement Zone 2
Where habitat is joined up enough to work as a network. Context, not a constraint on its own.
Also on the record
Inside the Wadhurst built-up area; the 1970s provisional farmland map had this area as grade 3, but it predates the buildings here and the current map does not class it as farmland.
Not affected
Outside flood zones 2 and 3 · Not green belt · No scheduled monument at the site

Checked on 11 September 2026. Historic England, the Environment Agency, Natural England and council datasets, Open Government Licence. A boundary can run through a site and the council holds the definitive record: confirm with the council before relying on this.
