Tree crown reduction at 7 Old School Lane, Brockham

Summary of planning committee decision

Decided by Mole Valley Development Management Committee on 5 Nov 2025.

MO/2025/02352Approved

No officer report was published for this decision; this summary is from the committee minutes.

What was proposed

The application was to reduce a willow tree to its knuckles, cutting its height by 5 metres and temporarily narrowing its width.

“Reduce 1 No. willow tree to the knuckles approximately 6 metres from ground level, reducing the height by 5 metres. This will consequently temporarily reduce the width to the knuckles approximately 2.5 metres, until the new shoots grow.”

Minutes

Whether the tree was protected

A member asked whether the tree was protected by a Tree Preservation Order, and officers explained it was not, but the application came to committee because the tree was in a conservation area.

“A query was raised on whether the tree in question was protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO). Officers clarified that it was not and explained that the application had only come to Committee because the tree was located within a conservation area, triggering a Section 211 Notice. This then required the Council to either impose a TPO if it considered the works harmful to the character of the conservation area or to allow the application to proceed.”
