Padel tennis courts at Land At Beacon Park, Greenhough Road, Lichfield

Summary of planning committee decision

Decided by Lichfield Planning Committee on 2 Feb 2026.

25/01483/FULApproved

What was proposed

The application sought amended permission for three padel courts, a facilities building, fencing, floodlighting and associated works.

“This application seeks permission for the erection of a complex to provide 3 No. Padel tennis courts, a facilities building, fencing, flood lighting and associated works (amendment to approved scheme 24/01168/FUL).”

“The complex involves a footpath which spurs off the existing public right of way to the north, to a rectangular clubhouse building that will mainly form a waiting area for those with allocated timeslots on the course. Within the clubhouse building, a single storey structure finished in timber cladding and featuring contemporary fenestration, will be a seated waiting room, along with an office for the attendant, and a toilet.”

Officer report

The site

The site forms part of a golf course beside commercial development, parkland, mature trees and a public right of way.

“The application site relates to a parcel of land located on the northern side of Beacon Park’s golf course, on land forming part of the ninth hole. The site lies outside the Lichfield City Centre boundary and just to the south of the city’s built limits. To the north and west of the site is a Morrisons supermarket and its associated car park. To the north-east and east is commercial…”

“The site is more closely surrounded by green space, with mature trees, bushes and hedges lying alongside the public footpath that traces a path around the edge of the golf course and parkland. Within the site at present are two sand traps which form part of hole nine of the golf course. Public Right of Way ‘Lichfield City 1R/2267’ runs along the North and Western boundaries of the site (outside of the boundary of the site).”

Officer report

What officers recommended

Officers recommended approval because the amended scheme retained the approved scale and use and was not expected to cause material harm.

“The development remains functional in scale and type and would continue to support the established recreational use of Beacon Park by providing additional sporting facilities. Officers consider that the amended scheme would not give rise to or result in any material harm and as such the scheme remains acceptable.”

“Summary Overall, the scheme is considered appropriate and acceptable and is recommended for approval subject to the recommendations as outlined within this report.”
