Garage removal and bungalow alterations at 6 Glebe Gardens, Windermere

Summary of planning committee decision

Decided by Lake District Development Control Committee on 4 Mar 2026.

7/2025/5605Approved

What was proposed

The application sought permission to remove the garage and alter the bungalow, including a rendered extension and changes to access.

“This application seeks permission for the removal of the garage and alterations to the bungalow.”

“As originally submitted, the proposed extension had large sections of vertical timber cladding. Following discussions with the applicant in light of the Parish Council's comments, the applicant agreed to amend the plans to propose a rendered extension with a reduced amount of glazing.”

Officer report

What officers recommended

Officers recommended approval because the development would preserve local character, protect neighbour amenity, pose low species risk and provide acceptable access.

“Lake District National Park Authority Development Control Committee – 4 February 2026 7/2025/5605 commissioned a bat survey which was submitted with the application. The survey found no evidence of bats using the site, and very limited roosting potential. As such the development is considered of low risk in respect of protected species, satisfying the requirements of the NPPF and Local Plan Policy 04.”

“Within their consultee response, the Local Highway Authority had no objections, however they recommended a condition to control vehicular access to or egress from the site via the approved access. The proposed extension would be in place of the existing driveway. As such, the application proposes blocking the existing access from the cul-de-sac road and creating a new access in the southwest corner of the site onto the same road.”
