Industrial and self-storage units at Varian Medical Systems UK Ltd Oncology House, Northgate

Summary of planning committee decision

Decided by Crawley Planning Committee on 20 Jul 2026.

CR/2025/0449/FULApproved

What is proposed

The application proposes demolishing the existing buildings and creating four industrial or logistics units, a self-storage building, landscaping, parking and access works.

“The proposal is for the demolition of the existing buildings and the redevelopment of the site to provide a total of five units. One building (Unit 4) would be within Use Class B2 (General Industrial), three buildings (Units 1 – 3) would be within Use Class B8 (Storage and Distribution), and one building would be for a self-storage facility (Use Class B8).”

“During the course of the application amendments were sought to improve the appearance of the buildings, in particular the proposed appearance of the self-storage building as well as improvements to the proposed layout, parking and landscaping. Originally the building was proposed in black ang grey panels with areas of red detailing with some areas of glazing. The building was amended to remove the red panels and introduce a bronze-coloured cladding instead.”
