A ward councillor's objection

A ward councillor opposed the development on farmland, calling it the last greenfield site in the area and citing a large loss of habitat.

“Councillor Nicholas Beswick (Ward Councillor) opposed the development which was planned on land which had been used for farming for over 400 years. It was also stated that this was the last greenfield in this area. It was noted that the developers currently didn’t have access to the land and that previous schemes to develop the land had not advanced.”

Objectors' concerns

Objectors raised the history of farming and older cottages on the site, flooding, loss of open space and impact on wildlife and footpaths.

“[the objector] (objector) informed the committee that the land had been farmed since 1912 and that the cottages currently on the site dated back to 1843. He raised concerns about flooding and noted that 7 cottages had already been built.”

“[the objector] (objector) said that there had already been 2 major developments which had been approved in the local area and raised concerns that this site was the only open space where she lived.”
