Illuminated façade wrap at Harrods, Chelsea, London SW1X

Summary of planning committee decision

Decided by Kensington And Chelsea Planning Applications Committee on 11 Aug 2026.

CA/26/03406Approved

What was proposed

The application sought a 7.5-metre by 15-metre static advertisement on scaffolding around Harrods’s West Turret during repair works.

“Harrods is located on the southern side of Brompton Road, between Hans Road and Hans Crescent. The property is an upmarket department store, built at the turn of the 20th Century. The premises are Listed Grade II* and are situated within the Hans Town Conservation Area and the Knightsbridge International Shopping Centre. 4.”

“The advertisement panel and associated scaffold wrap would be removed upon completion of the repair works. The advertisement would be externally illuminated by a series of discreet luminaires mounted solely to the scaffold structure. The lighting scheme would comprise a combination of low-level uplighters and high-level downlighters designed to provide even illumination across the face of the display.”
