Site constraints 7
Open access land
Open country or registered common land, with a right to roam on foot.
Building on registered common land needs the consent of the Secretary of State as well as planning permission.
SSSI 46 m away: Barrington Chalk Pit SSSI
Natural England may need consulting, depending on what is proposed.
Sites of special scientific interest are the best wildlife and geological sites in the country. Development likely to harm one is rarely permitted.
Habitat network: Network Enhancement Zone 2
Where habitat is joined up enough to work as a network. Context, not a constraint on its own.
Also on the record
National infrastructure project 388 m away: East West Rail - Bedford to Cambridge and Western improvements, at pre-application; Priority habitat 34 m away: Deciduous woodland; Green belt 69 m away: Cambridge; Natural England's Provisional ALC map (1:250,000, 1970s) had this area as grade 3, but it predates the buildings here and the current map does not class it as farmland.
Not affected
Outside flood zones 2 and 3 · No listed building at the site · No scheduled monument at the site
Checked on 13 October 2026. Historic England, the Environment Agency, Natural England, the Planning Inspectorate and council datasets, Open Government Licence. A boundary can run through a site and the council holds the definitive record: confirm with the council before relying on this.
