Bus stop condition amendment at Little Trees Cemetery, Broadfield, Crawley
Summary of planning committee decision
Decided by Crawley Planning Committee on 2 Sept 2026.
No officer report was published for this decision; this summary is from the committee minutes.
What was proposed
The application sought to amend a bus stop condition linked to a new cemetery and associated access, transport, drainage and landscaping works.
“The Committee considered report PES/530c of the Head of Economy and Planning which proposed as follows:”
“Amendment of condition 9 (Bus Stop Phase 2) pursuant to change of use of the land to a new cemetery with new pedestrian and vehicular access off the A264, new bus stop facilities and signal controlled crossing, removal of existing trees, re-profiling of existing levels, new carriageway and footway infrastructure boundary fencing and gates, surface water drainage, street lighting, soft landscaping and tree planting, operation compound and multipurpose facilities building.”

Who spoke
The agent spoke in support of the application.
Access to the cemetery
Members asked about the bus stop’s distance and pedestrian safety, and officers explained the available crossings and route changes.
“The Committee then considered the application. In response to a query from a Committee member regarding the ease of access to the cemetery from the location of the proposed bus stop, officers confirmed that the stop was 200 metres from the cemetery entrance. This was closer than the nearest existing bus stop, but further than the stop that was proposed as part of the original application which was at the site entrance.”
“A concern was raised regarding the safety of pedestrians accessing the cemetery from the proposed bus stop. Officers clarified that there was an existing signalled pedestrian crossing on the A264 and a further crossing was to be installed on Tollgate Hill to facilitate safe crossing to the new bus stop.”
