Description
T775 - Oak (tree overhanging the Gardeners yard) - remove upper crown The tree lost its upper crown around forty years ago. It was tidied up and left with more or less, a high pollard top to it. I understand there was no option following the amount of breakage. It has responded by producing callus growth around the top cuts which in turn grew new stems. These stems are growing at angles making them vulnerable to breakage themselves. The potential problem is compounded by forty years of decay from the original pruning cut. Given the questionable condition of the rest of the tree I think it is necessary to remove all of the regeneration back to points around 0.5m from the previous top cut. If any small growing points can be retained they should be left on. This will eliminate the risk of these, now heavy, pollard growths, from failing.
