Proposal
0AH5 is a mature Thuja plicata is one of five trees growing closely together in the wide verge to the entrance of Shaw House. Four of the trees are Thuja plicata and one tree is a common ash. Tree 0AH5 shows a history of losing its leading stem and the tree attempting to re-balance its crown. However there is now extensive internal decay and the a large opening to the main bole showing advanced decay. Using a sounding hammer showed that there are large areas of hollowing in the first 1m of bole above the ground and the probe penetrated the ground on the north side of the bole to 40cm. Given the location of the tree close to the historic walled boundary of Shaw House and adjacent to the busy Church Lane where children walk to and from school I believe the tree needs to be felled on the grounds of safety. We will replant a similar species in this location. Data via plota.co.uk
