Description

T1 Poplar: Carry out a controlled and proportionate reduction of regrowth arising from established historic pollard points. Works to comprise: Reduction of all secondary regrowth to leave approximately 2 to 3 metres of extension growth from the existing pollard heads Retention of the full historic pollard framework and all primary structural limbs Selective thinning of congested regrowth where necessary to maintain an even and stable crown structure Removal of dead, dying, damaged or crossing branches where present All pruning cuts to be undertaken to suitable growth points in strict accordance with BS3998:2010 Tree Work Recommendations, avoiding the creation of large diameter wounds and preserving the integrity of the existing pollard heads. No cutting back to, or beyond, the established pollard points is proposed. Arboricultural Justification The subject tree exhibits clear evidence of historic pollarding, with established pollard heads and cyclical regrowth typical of managed Poplar species. The proposed works represent: Routine cyclical management of a previously pollarded tree A measured and sustainable reduction consistent with accepted arboricultural practice A necessary intervention to prevent excessive extension growth, reduce end weight, and maintain structural integrity The specification has been carefully limited to ensure: No over pruning or structural harm Preservation of long term tree health and vitality Retention of amenity value within the Conservation Area Avoidance of large pruning wounds which could accelerate decay Constraints and Limitations: Works will not involve cutting to boundary lines where this would require excessive or indiscriminate pruning Works will not exceed 30 percent of recent regrowth Works will not alter the fundamental structure, height or character of the tree Any more severe reduction, including cutting back to or beyond pollard points or to boundary limits, would: Be contrary to BS3998 best practice Introduce a high risk of decay and weakly attached regrowth Result in structural imbalance and reduced longevity Be likely to be considered over pruning within a Conservation Area, with potential for enforcement action Summary: Proportionate Measured Consistent with established management Fully compliant with current arboricultural standards They represent the minimum intervention necessary to manage the tree safely and sustainably.
